2017-2018 Main Campus Undergraduate Student Handbook

Welcome to Point Loma Nazarene University.

In order to truly understand a university, you must understand its purpose. Point Loma Nazarene University is intentionally committed to faith and learning - the uniting of heart and mind.  Our desire for you is more than accumulating credits toward a degree, but to become individuals who think and live intentionally as Christians in all aspects of your life.

Jesus presents this challenge of the fullness of life in His greatest commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-38)

A natural outcome of faith and learning joined together is the desire to serve others and to make a difference wherever you are. That’s why our mission commits PLNU to be a university where “minds are engaged and challenged, character is modeled and formed, and service becomes an expression of faith.”

We strive toward this purpose as a community - one that worships, studies, plays, questions, challenges and encourages one another. That’s what PLNU is about. It’s why I love this place, and it’s why I’m so honored to welcome you here and wish you the very best for this academic year.

Positively,

Bob Brower, Ph.D.

President

Mission Statement

Point Loma Nazarene University exists to provide higher education in a vital Christian community where minds are engaged and challenged, character is modeled and formed, and service becomes an expression of faith.  Being of Wesleyan heritage, we aspire to be a learning community where grace is foundational, truth is pursued, and holiness is a way of life.
